DETOXIFICATION SERVICES ISLAMABAD-HDRC
Detoxification is the first and most medically critical step in addiction recovery. Stopping drugs or alcohol without supervision can cause seizures, cardiovascular events, and in some cases death. This is clinical fact. It means detox must happen under proper medical care, not at home and not alone.
At Healing Door Rehab Center, detox is conducted under 24/7 medical supervision with continuous monitoring, medication management, and psychiatric support throughout.
What is Detoxification?
Detoxification is the process of safely removing a drug or alcohol from the body while managing the physical withdrawal symptoms that follow when use stops. It is the necessary first phase before psychological rehabilitation can begin.
Different substances carry different withdrawal risks. Alcohol and benzodiazepine withdrawal are the most medically dangerous and can cause seizures, psychosis, and cardiac events. Heroin and opioid withdrawal causes severe physical pain, vomiting, and dehydration. ICE and methamphetamine withdrawal can trigger severe depression and psychosis. Cannabis withdrawal typically causes anxiety, insomnia, and irritability. Tramadol withdrawal carries a risk of muscle cramps and seizures in heavy users.
Home detox for alcohol or benzodiazepines is not safe. Medical supervision is not optional for these substances.
What HDRC's Detox Includes
- 24/7 vital sign monitoring by qualified medical staff
- Medication-assisted withdrawal management where clinically indicated
- IV hydration and nutritional support through the in-house clinic
- Psychiatric assessment throughout by Prof Dr. Jan Alam and Dr. Nasir Mehmood Abbasi
- Direct transition into rehabilitation after detox is complete
Typical detox durations by substance:
- Alcohol: 5 to 10 days
- Heroin and opioids: 7 to 14 days
- Benzodiazepines: 10 to 21 days (gradual tapering required, not sudden removal)
- ICE / methamphetamine: 7 to 14 days
- Cannabis: 5 to 7 days
Detox Is the Start, Not the Finish
Detox removes the substance from the body. It does not address why the person used it or what psychological patterns kept the dependency going. A patient who completes detox and leaves without a rehabilitation plan will almost certainly relapse.
At HDRC, detox flows directly into the structured rehabilitation program. The transition is planned from admission, not decided at discharge.
